Volunteer with us!

A smiling woman in athletic clothing standing next to an open trunk of a gray SUV, with boxes inside, in a parking lot on a partly cloudy day.

Since we started this ministry in 1997, we've depended on volunteers for all the services we provide, such as our Family Food Box deliveries, supplying clothing, household items, and hygiene bags for the needy, and just being there to pray with people and love them. The key to all of it is the generous, gracious volunteers that God has sent our way. We thank God for each one of them!

But now, the demands of the poor and needy in our communities are greater than ever, which is why we need your help.

Have a special talent?

We're a volunteer-driven organization, so we welcome your participation! We can always use help by hanging clothes, pulling weeds, wrapping plasticware, packing food boxes, sorting donated housewares, and more. We welcome volunteers Tuesday through Saturday 8 am to 2 pm.

 FAQs

  • No problem! City Mission Ministries is a great place to volunteer for those who have physical limitations and can't do much physical labor. Here's a handful of volunteering activities that don't require physical labor:

    • Hang donated clothing

    • Write cards to those who are on our prayer list!

    • Pray with our clients on Food Box delivery days. We have a designated prayer corner. Come check it out!

    • Check delivery Food Box drivers in while sitting down.

    • Volunteer in Blessingdales, our indoor yard sale that provides income for our many ministries!

    • Test donated electronics. We'll set everything up for you!

  • We're so glad to hear that you're interested in bringing your family to volunteer at City Mission Ministries.

With children 13 years or younger, we require at least one parent or related adult above the age of 18 years old to accompany them at all times.

For school groups, we asked you bring a sufficient amount of adults as we typically break these volunteers into groups. 10 - 12 adults are recommended for a group of 50 children.

We recommend these activities for volunteer groups with children:

    • Pack bags of hope

    • Deliver a food Box

    • Hang donated clothing

    • Help us process donations. ( A favorite activity for many of our younger volunteers)

If children are being repeatedly left alone without adult supervision, we will ask your group to leave for their safety.

    • Ladies—no low-cut blouses.

    • Shorts should be no higher than 4” above the knee (men or women).

    • No tight or sheer clothing.

    • Closed-toe shoes are best to protect your feet.

    • Dress appropriate for the weather (We don’t always have a/c, heat or dry areas to work in).

    • Working with dirty items could stain your clothes, so wear something you won’t have to worry about.

  • We usually respond 1-2 business days after you send your volunteer application in. You can fill out the application here!

However during our holiday seasons, please expect a longer wait time.

  • Volunteering at City Mission Ministries is a calorie killer! You'll never be bored or without a task.

Once your application has been approved, and you've spoken with your local volunteer coordinator, you'll visit your designated Mission resource center where there are tons of different tasks you can do. You'll first check into the office, where they'll direct you to your volunteering hub.

Depending on your task, a staff member will be with you or within shouting distance at all times. So if you have a question, dont worry! We'll hear you.

Don't be afraid to share your experience online, we'd love to hear how it went!

  • Absolutely, City Mission Ministries has always been interested in embracing everyone's unique gifts! Here's some unique volunteering opportunities we've made happen for past/current volunteers:

    • Love gardening? We could use your help keeping our flowers pretty and happy!

    • Are you a Hairstylist or Barber? Many of our clients regularly ask for haircuts.

    • Want to help us BIG TIME in a short amount of time? volunteer to pick up some of our donated food from community partners.

    • Car mechanics can assist us with fixing our vehicles whenever they decide it's a vacation day.

    • Are you a teacher that can't bring the kids on a field trip? Have them write encouraging letters to some of our clients.

We are a ministry that a 100% depends on the community we serve to keep us going! You don't always have to deliver a Food Box to make a change in your community. Even if you're special talent isn't listed here, please don't hesitate to reach out!
